Banks

In Finland the most used form regarding withdrawal transaction with money is ATMs for cash. You will find the most ATM by the sign OTTO.  In general most banking in Finland is now done on-line through home or company computers as well as payment terminals located at branch offices. 

Finnish banks are open from Monday to Friday 09.15 - 16.15 (office hours may vary regionally), closed on Saturdays and Sundays. All banking services are available at branches of banks such as Sampo, Nordea Bank Finland, OKO Bank Group and Ålandsbanken.  You can use the most major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard and EuroCard can be used for payment in most shops and restaurants.

Thanks to EU rules, withdrawing euro from a cash machine costs you the same anywhere in the EU as it does in your own country from a cash machine that does not belong to your bank. The transaction fee for making a debit or credit card payment in the EU in euro is the same as in your own country. Charges may of course differ between banks.

Currency

In Finland the currency is Euro.  Euro is the most used currency in many countries in Europe. The Euro currency and idea was developed by EU (Common market). Notes are valued in 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euro, while coins are valued at 5, 10, and 20, 50 cents and 1 and 2 Euro. 1 and 2 cent coins might be used in other countries, but is not applicable to Finland.

When visiting Finland, amounts exceeding EUR 10 000 need to be declared if you are traveling to or from a country outside the European Union.
