Once Gl. Rye was an important town in Denmark, and in the Middle Ages it was a centre for culture and politics in Denmark: it was here at the famous spring Skt. Sørens Kilde that a large market emerged where both rich and poor people gathered from the whole of Jutland.

There has probably also been an inn here in the 1500s, but the present inn can only be traced back to approximately 400 years ago. The inn has been restored with a gentle touch and today it appears with all modern conveniences without damaging the old atmosphere.

Jutland s largest lake Mossø has a rich bird and fish life, and thus there are fine possibilities of fishing, but also of cycling and hiking following the signposted paths in the wood and along the lake.
