Sweden's highest mountain Kebnekaise is located nearby Kiruna in northern Sweden.
The mountain has two peaks. A survey conducted in 2013 showed that Kebnekaise was 2100.2 m. Kebnekaise is believed to be the lowest altitude ever? The reason is that the top is covered by ice that melts.
If you go to Nikkaluokta 66 km from Kiruna by bus, there is 19 km to Kebnekaise mountain station. From lake Laddjujavri you can also take a 30 minutes boat trip, and from here it remains 8 km to the mountain station.
It is possible to stay in both Nikkaluokta and Kebnekaise mountain station. There are regular helicopter tours going from Nikkaluokta to Kebnekaise mountain station between June and September. Kebnekaise mountain station offers guided day tours and hiking courses.
