New Älvsborg Fortress is probably the most well-preserved fortress in Sweden.
During the war against Denmark in 1717–1719, the fortress was attacked time after time without being occupied.
Today it is one of the most popular outings in Gothenburg. You take a boat to the island with company Strömma Skärgårdsbåtar. The boat trip takes approx. 30 min, one way. The guided tour onboard will be in Swedish and English through loudspeakers and the dramatised tour is in Swedish and English.
The excursion includes a historic dramatised guided tour, which invites you to go on a surprising trip back in time from the 1600s to today. You'll meet the king Christian IV of Denmark and Admiral Peder Tordenskiöld among others.
On the island, there's a café, a small handicraft shop and you can enjoy the walking paths and beautiful surroundings.
