A hotel a little out of the ordinary
Sogndalstrand is an old port from the days of sailing ships. In 1994 the entire area was listed by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage, and a hotel a little out of the ordinary was born.
Enthusiasts Eli Laupstad Omdal and Jan Oddvar Omdal started with Krambukafé – the general store café – in June 1994, as a voluntary endeavour to bring this unique location from the age of sailing into focus; an entire small town was in decline, and something had to be done.
Today Sogndalstrand Kulturhotell comprises eight different houses with 15 guest rooms, a restaurant, café, conference room, prison pub, etc. The oldest house dates from 1831. The presence of the hotel has also given several players the courage to invest in the local community.
