Taking the cable car to the top of Storsteinen is one of Tromsø’s most popular tourist attractions.
On the large outdoor terrace, you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of Tromsø and the virtually endless sight of islands, fjords, mountains and the open sea.
From the platform, Tromsø lies at our feet from a height of 421 metres (1380 feet). Here you can see the island Tromsøya and Kvaløya in the distance. Close to the mountain you clearly see the Arctic Cathedral.
If you look in the other direction, you will see the majestic mountain Tromsdalstinden, which towers 1,238 m above sea level.
In summer, the panorama deck at the upper station provides excellent opportunities for seeing the Midnight Sun, while in winter it’s an ideal place for hunting the magical Northern Lights.
The lower station is located on Tromsø’s mainland, 50 m above sea level, while the upper station, Fjellstua, is situated at an altitude of 421 m above sea level. The trip up takes just four minutes.
It is ideal to combined you outdoor views and walk on the mountaintop with a stop in the Fjellstua restaurant, from where the most spectacular views over the city. Especially during the winter and the Northern Light season many visitors used the option have a delightful meal up here and some warm to drink.
