If you are interested in traditions, culture and history, the Polar Museum in Tromsø is the right place to visit.
This museum is dedicated to its links with the Arctic, and the Tromsø owes much of its prosperity to the trappers and hunters who were here during the first half of the 19th century.
Here you can experience the fantastic stories about the brave trappers and the exhibition of the famous Polar researchers Nansen and Amundsen on the first floor. The museum has a prime location on the harbourfront and is housed in a former customs warehouse dating from 1830
Note the exploding harpoons outside, which shows what kind of equipment was used to catch the whales.
