As EU citizen or North American citizen, a valid passport gives up to three-month permission to stay in Sweden. Citizens from other countries have to check by the Swedish diplomatic representatives in their home country. Among those nationalities who need a Schengen visa are Chinese and Indians.
Sweden is a member of the Schengen Union Agreement, which allows unrestricted travel for persons in Europe included in the agreement. The agreement only regulates personal control for travellers, and don`t effect for the free transport of goods, services and capital. Travellers only have to bring their passport in case of they have to prove their identity in combination special circumstances.
The personal control can take place both on arrival and departure. Here the personal identity and the valid of the passport will be checked. Travellers will also be checked for the joint police registration system (Schengen Information System).
