You will visit the Vasa Museum and understand why it is one of the most popular Nordic museums.
The ship was repaired and rebuilt over the last half-century, but 95% of the ship is original and shows its original glory. It`s decorated with hundreds of carved sculptures. You will, outside on the roof, see a specially built museum showing the height of the ship's original masts.
The new building of the Vasa Museum opened in the summer of 1990, and HRH King Carl XVI Gustaf opened it.
The sheer scale and the beauty of Vasa are breathtaking; almost 700 wooden sculptures and figures adorn her length and breadth. The 69-meter-long warship Vasa sank on its maiden voyage in the middle of Stockholm in 1628 and was salvaged 333 years later in 1961.
Ten different exhibitions tell you about the history and how life was on the ship. You can also sit down and look at the film, translated into 13 languages.
The souvenir shop is, of course, a must for memory, and then as a bonus, children under 18 years have free access to the museum.
Vasa Museum 2015 celebrated its 25th anniversary as the most visited museum in the Nordic countries, with around 1 million visitors every year.
