Welcome to Esbjerg, the biggest city in South Jutland. From here you have a good starting point for a holiday in South Denmark because it`s close to the sea and it`s possible to reach the top attractions in South Denmark from here.
The city is situated on the Danish west coast next to the North Sea and the Wadden Sea National Park, and not so far from Legoland - Billund Resort.
Since they established a harbour in Esbjerg back in 1868, the city and region have developed to be the third-largest growth centre in Denmark. Today the harbour is the second largest in Denmark, and the harbour facilities are being expanded to answer the needs of the wind-turbine industry and container shipping traffic.
The city offers a wide selection of things to see and do. Esbjerg is very proud to offer Denmark`s biggest and best Fisheries and Maritime Museum. By exciting wildlife events and kids friendly activities, this museum is a must-see.
When entering Esbjerg, you immediately find out their interest in art and design here. The world-famous Danish architect Jørn Utzon (also designed the Sydney Opera) has been the architect of the Esbjerg Art Museum and Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre, and they are both very recommendable to visit. Just outside Esbjerg, you can find the new impressive monumental Sculpture called " Man meets the Sea". This monument was raised regarding the 100th anniversary of the city.
When visiting Esbjerg, it is almost unavoidable not to be tempted to visit the harbour area. Experience all from a special fish auction for tourists to the Light Ship Museum. It`s also possible to go on a seal sea safari to the Wadden sea from here. Another obvious option is a tour with the ferry to the small beautiful island called Fanø. Every summer, thousands of tourists visit the amazing beaches and enjoy the idyllic atmosphere on the island.
As the biggest shopping metropole in the west coast region, Esbjerg in 2016 opened a big special designed pedestrian street for shopping lovers.
When you visit Esbjerg, we recommend you book a table in one of the cosy restaurants and taste the local fish and Wadden sea specialities.
