The current monarch, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, can trace her lineage back to the first Viking kings of Denmark over 1000 years ago.
Visit the homes of the Danish Royal Family
At Amalienborg Palace, it is possible to visit a museum where you can see an exhibit about the Royal Family, and if you wish to see the crown jewels, you visit the Rosenborg Castle from 1606.
The Danish Royal Family has different royal residences they use during the year. In winter Queen Margrethe and her husband reside at Amalienborg, during spring and autumn at Fredensborg, and in summer they stay at Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus.

Kronborg - the famous Hamlet castle
The most famous castle is Kronborg Castle in North Zealand from 1574. It is an old royal Renaissance castle, and it is world-famous from William Shakespeare`s Hamlet.
