By a visit to National Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella Park, you will be amazed by an incredible nature scenery.
The size of the national park is 1693 km2 all around. Together with the Rondane area, Dovrefjell is Europe’s last high mountain area where rare animals like wild reindeer, glutton, mountain fox, golden eagle, raven and small rodents inhabit the same area.
These areas not only feature the most diverse range of mountain flora species in Norway but also serve as setting for species with dispersion patterns.
You can drive down the Drivdalen valley on the E6 highway, and you will have the national park on both sides. There are many excellent sites suitable to stop and take a look around. In respect to the nature scenery, you will find some restrictions to be aware of.
Do you go via the E6 and the Dombås–Trondheim railway, you will find the eastern reaches of this large park are rugged and severe. For hikers, the terrain gets even wilder as the serrated alpine peaks of the Romsdal hove into view.
Bicycling in the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park is only permitted on routes specially marked for this purpose on the tour map for the area.
You will find National Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella Nationalpark 5 hours’ drive from Oslo.
