About the Danish Royal Family

Denmark´s royal family is very popular in Denmark, and is one of the oldest monarchies in the world.

HM Queen Margrethe II ascended to the throne in 1972 and is the first female monarch in Denmark since the reign of Queen Margrethe I in the 14th century. Apart from her royal duties, Queen Margrethe is also a talented artist and designer and has her exhibitions in art museums in Denmark, like Aros Museum in Aarhus

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has two sons. Crown Prince Frederik is the eldest son and the heir apparent to the Danish throne. Prince Joachim is the younger son of Queen Margrethe II.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary represent the younger generation and are involved in various social causes, including sustainability, health, and humanitarian efforts. Crown.

The Queen's abdication in 2024

During her annual New Year's Eve address on December 31st, 2023, HM The Queen of Denmark declared her intention to step down after a remarkable 52-year reign. She will pass the mantle to her son, Crown Prince Frederik, who is set to ascend to the throne on January 14th, 2024.
