Jostedalsbreen National Park is one of Norway`s most famous parks.

The area covers 1,310 square kilometres, and the biggest glacier, Jostedalsbreen, is the most incredible glacier in mainland Europe.

Jostedalsbreen is a glacier that is the most enormous ice mass on the European mainland outside the Arctic. 

Jostedalsbreen is in western Norway and extends over areas in Sogn og Fjordane county. The glacier covers about 487 square kilometres and is part of the Jostedalsbreen National Park.

The Jostedals glacier is impressive and spans several arms or branches extending into the surrounding valleys. The highest part of the glacier, Høgste Breakulen, reaches a height of 1,957 meters above sea level.

 

Scenic surroundings

The Jostedalsbreen area is known for its magnificent nature with high mountains, deep valleys, clear lakes and waterfalls. It is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and offers fantastic hiking and winter sports opportunities.

The meltwater from the Jostedals glacier creates beautiful rivers and lakes perfect for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Visitors also have the opportunity to take guided kayak trips on ice fjords and hiking routes along the glacier front.

Ice hiking

Sognefjord & Nordfjord

Jostedalsbreen divides two of the longest fjords in the world, Sognefjord and Nordfjord. Related to climate changes, the seasonally melting water from the glacier creates beautiful glacial rivers, one of the highlights of the Jostedalsbreen National Park.

The area is fantastic for all nature lovers and shows lush valleys, alpine valleys, and an arctic climate. The park is generally only visible on foot because of the wild nature.
