The Nordfjord is in the Fjordane region in Western Norway. Mountains and amazing green valleys surround the fjord.
The Nordfjord is 565 metres deep, and it is 106 km long with a coastline between Stadlandet and Jostedalsbreen.
It is in the region you also find one of Norway´s biggest attractions -the mighty Briksdal Glacier.
The glacier is part of the Jostedalsbreen National Park, and from a height of 1200 metres, it plunges its way down to the lush, narrow valley of Briksdalen.
The glacier lies at the end of Oldedalen, approximately 20 km from the village of Olden.
From the mountain lodge, there is a 3 km long gravel road leading up to the glacier. You can either walk up or be driven in open cars called "troll cars", which take you to within 500 metres of the glacier from where you will have to walk.
The trail is also accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. The Briksdal Glacier lodge is open from mid-April to mid–October, and in summer the Glacier bus runs a return trip between Stryn and Briksdal

Throughout the Viking Age, Nordfjorden was a central destination for the famous warriors. As evidence, you will find various museums and visitor centres you can learn more about the history of the area.
We can here recommend visiting Sagastad, which is a visitor centre where they tell about the Viking age in the region. In the most central part of the centre, you can see the spectacular Myklebust Viking ship.
Another big attraction is the famous Mt. Skåla, a distinctive mountain 1848 metres above sea level. The surroundings here invites spectacular hikes with views of the fjords, mountains and glaciers, and is thought to be the summit trip in Norway with the greatest variation in altitude from fjord to mountaintop.
As mentioned, because of the beautiful natural surroundings, the Nordfjord region invites all kinds of adventure throughout the year. Did you know The Stryn Summer Ski Alpine Center offers alpine skiing nearly all year long?
In Stadlandet you will find some of the best surfing spots in the country. In the famous National Park Jostedalbreen National Park, you will find amazing hiking and biking adventures.
The inhabitants here live in agriculture, fishing and industry business. Norway`s second-biggest fishing community Vågsøy is located here, but you will also find lots of creativity and innovative business like the famous Norwegian brand ´Moods of Norway´.
