The beautiful view over the Nærøy Valley, from Stalheim Hotel, has for nearly 200 years been one of the highlights in many a traveller's visit to Western Norway.

Many artists, painters, and poets, and royal monarchs have through the years stayed here, and the artists have found inspiration to great works of art in this dramatic but at the same time harmonic landscape.

History

The history of Stalheim dates back to 1647 when Stalheim became a postal farm on the newly opened Oslo – Bergen postal route. In 1750 the first postal inn, now a part of the Stalheim museum, was built and in 1885 the first Stalheim Hotel opened its doors.

Comfortable rooms

The Stalheim Hotel of today is from 1960. The many fine antiques that are on display in the hotel’s spacious panorama lounges are a part of the extensive collection of art and artefacts that constitute Stalheim Folk Museum, one of Norway’s largest privately owned folk museums.

Unesco Heritage and the Flåm line

Within an easy day, you get the absolute best of Western Norway such as a ride on the famous Flåm Line and a 2 hours cruise on the narrowest of fjords, the Nærøyfjord.

The Stalheim hotel is the perfect starting point for doing the tour with the Flåm railway to Flåm. The bus from Stalheim takes you to the Voss Railway station where you catch the train for Myrdal and Flåm.
