The beautiful view over the Nærøy Valley, from Stalheim Hotel, has for nearly 200 years been one of the highlights in many a traveller's visit to Western Norway.
Many artists, painters, and poets, and royal monarchs have through the years stayed here, and the artists have found inspiration to great works of art in this dramatic but at the same time harmonic landscape.
The history of Stalheim dates back to 1647 when Stalheim became a postal farm on the newly opened Oslo – Bergen postal route. In 1750 the first postal inn, now a part of the Stalheim museum, was built and in 1885 the first Stalheim Hotel opened its doors.
The Stalheim Hotel of today is from 1960. The many fine antiques that are on display in the hotel’s spacious panorama lounges are a part of the extensive collection of art and artefacts that constitute Stalheim Folk Museum, one of Norway’s largest privately owned folk museums.
Staying at Stalheim you have an excellent base for exploring the fantastic fjords and mountains of Western Norway. It is not without reason the Nærøyfjord and the Nærøy Valley all the way up to the hotel has been added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.
